Introduction
The evolution of video games from past to present is absolute. First, there were game cartridges that were created for the Nintendo and Super Nintendo. This trend continued on to the Sega Genesis as well, it was a known fact that cartridges would be the format games would come in. However, shortly after games were formatted to compact disks, it was a change that a lot of gamers welcomed.
Having said that, the current generation consoles i.e. the PS4 still gives gamers the option of buying the disks. As many gamers are aware, current generation games are on blue ray disks which are very sensitive; the slightest scratch could damage them beyond repair which I hate. Lately, I’ve been thinking of downloading all of the PS4 games I want onto the system’s hard drive. Normally, I’m all for having a game collection, but I’m beginning to grow out of having a visible collection. Here’s why:
Disks Overrated
As I previously said, I’ve sort of outgrown having a visible collection of games and I feel that having the games downloaded to the PS4’s hard drive would be a better alternative vs. trying to find the games. Also, having game disks are overrated, it was cool back when gamers were transitioning from regular game cartridges to disks, but the time has now come to explore other options of getting my games.
Plus, I would feel better because I don’t have to worry if my games are getting weather damaged because of extreme cold or extreme heat so it would definitely be a welcome change and an option I would definitely plan to explore.
Download to the system is easier
The first time I ever downloaded a game to my PS3, I was flabbergasted how easy it was to do. I’ve never done it before so I did not know what to expect, I swore from that point on that I would download any game that I could. When I get a PS4, I intend to keep this promise for two reasons. One, every gamer go on the hunt for the next big game which is all fine and good, but I like getting my games without having to compete with other gamers or put money down to reserve it.
Second, downloading games to the system is less time-consuming and alleviates the headache of trying to find that popular game that has been snatched off the shelves. For example, when Odin Sphere Leifthrasir came out, I thought I was not going to find a copy and then I did. The point is that I was prepared to buy the game from the PlayStation Store because I knew I would find it there which I did.
Blue Ray Disk Damage
Before blue ray disks, there were regular compact disks that were used to make video games. However, PS3 introduced blue ray disks and later the PS4. Blue ray disks damage so easily that the thought of replacing any game is completely frustrating never mind if you did or did not have the money to replace it. This is one of the main reasons why I have chosen to download all of my PS4 games to the hard drive because I don’t have the patience to keep replacing any blue ray disk/game I get; it is irritating.
Conclusion
There has been a lot of compact disks used for games as long as anyone can remember, but even the newest toy begins to lose it luster as it ages. The great thing about the PS4 is that downloading games to the hard drive is easy and less time consuming. I definitely plan to have all of my PS4 games downloaded because game disks are overrated, don’t wait; try it and see what I mean.
