Ninja Magic

Any gamer whose played a Ninja Gaiden game knows the importance of utilizing the power of the Ninja Magic in the game and the benefits that come with it. Having said that, use and abuse your Ninja Magic because that is why it is there. This game is the hardest of all of the Ninja Gaiden games combined and using every little bit of Ryu’s Ninja Magic can mean the difference between life and death.

Also, there are some Ninja Magic(s) that is recommended for certain areas on certain levels. On Stage 2-1, using the Windmill Shuriken can help you get across the dunes without taking too much damage from enemies.

On Stage 3-1, the Fire Dragon Wheel will help you get the jump on those bothersome and annoying fish enemies that pop up out of the water when you’re trying to time your jumps.

On Stage 3-2, if you manage to get the Invincible Fire Wheel, keep it as long as possible because it will make going through your enemies on the level easier.

Stage 4-1 is where you will want to use the Fire Dragon Wheel and the Windmill Shuriken because it’ll make going through the stage easier, you’re less likely to die as well.

Dying is easy

Really, the easiest way to navigate most stages is to not be quick about running through the level or trying to get to the end of a level because, from experience, you’ll die continuously.

For Stage 5-1, look before you leap; don’t be hasty and jump because you’ll be setting yourself up to be swarmed by enemies aplenty. The easiest way of getting through the level is by jumping forward to get your enemies to appear then jump back and start dispatching your enemies one by one.

Know when to run

There are times when you might feel compelled to try to kill every single enemy you cross swords with. My advice, don’t. Knowing when to run can be lifesaving and it’ll help you preserve some health.

The secondary advantage of doing this is when you eventually find a health bottle in that designated spot in the game, it’ll restore your health and add to what you already have which can be a real benefit when you need those life points when facing off against certain bosses in the game.

Killing every enemy in the game isn’t necessary and sometimes it can cause more problems for you. Consider yourself warned!

Sword Upgrade

When I first played this game, I was astonished that there was a sword upgrade that amplified Ryu’s Dragon Sword’s range which meant that he did not have to be up close and personal to kill his enemies.

My advice, anywhere you come across this priceless item, make the attempt to get it. You’ll be happy you did when you’re able to shred your enemies without touching them or letting them get close to you.

Conclusion

Ninja Gaiden III on the NES is a very challenging game to be sure, but that does not mean that your average gamer can’t outsmart the enemy AI because more times than not that usually works better than brute force.

Utilizing your Ninja Magic and Sword Upgrade can make a world of difference, but know when to run too because it can help preserve health and can ultimately save your life in some stages. Dying is easy, but you’ll make it harder for your enemies by using your head and the tools at your disposal to live another day.
